The wait for the announcement of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Pensioner Dearness Relief (DR) for lakhs of central government employees and pensioners has now become longer. Every year the government implements DA hike from January and July, but this time no official announcement has been made even after the first week of April has passed.
Business News: Till now the Central Government has not announced Dearness Allowance i.e. DA for its employees and pensioners. Usually it is announced at the time of Holi, but despite the first week of April passing, no movement is visible this time. The central government announces DA for its employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners twice a year, which comes into effect from January 1 and June 1.
However, such a delay in the declaration of DA was never seen since the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations in July 2016. This time the delay has increased the confusion and anxiety among the employees and pensioners, and everyone is keeping an eye on when the government will implement it.
DA hike: previous record
Last year, the DA hike, to be implemented from January 2025, was announced on March 28 and official orders were issued on April 2. The orders for DA increase in 2024 were issued on April 3. However, during the Corona period, DA was frozen at 17% for 18 months between 2019 and 2021. The order for this decision came on April 23, 2020.
This year also government employees and pensioners are waiting for DA increase. As per the 12-month average of All-India Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW), DA may increase by 2%. This will increase the current 58% DA to 60%.
What is the reason behind the delay?
According to experts, the main reason for the delay in DA increase this time may be to the transition of the Eighth Pay Commission report. Bankbazaar.com CEO Adil Shetty said that the delay in DA hike does not mean that there has been a change in the government’s policy. It is just taking time to implement new financial and structural changes.
In addition, world economic and geopolitical conditions, such as the ongoing war in West Asia and financial pressures, may also influence the decision process. However, the possibility of employees getting increase in DA still remains.
DA’s account
The central government increases DA twice a year. It is generally applicable from January and July and the time of announcement has been around Holi or Diwali. This time there has been a delay in April, but experts estimate that it can be implemented next week. If the government announces DA increase in the second week of this month, employees will get arrears from January. This will directly benefit their salary and pension.
For central government employees and pensioners, DA is not only dearness allowance but also an important means of maintaining their financial stability and balancing monthly expenses. Inflation has increased compared to last year, so this time’s DA increase can directly impact the income and expenses of employees.
When will the announcement come?
According to Adil Shetty, DA hike is likely to be announced in the second week of this month. Before the government takes over the new financial year, it is important to implement the DA hike. Along with this, employees and pensioners will get arrears from January, which will also provide financial relief. In summary, the wait for DA increase for central government employees is now about to end.
