Before the assembly elections in West Bengal, the state's ruling party Trinamool Congress has suffered a setback. The nomination of Trinamool Congress candidate Abhinav Bhattacharya from Krishnanagar North assembly seat was canceled due to legal issues. According to administrative sources, his nomination has been canceled under Section 9A of the Representation of the People Act due to problems related to the business agreement the Returning Officer had with the state government.
Chief Minister last Tuesday Mamata Banerjee had introduced Abhinav Bhattacharya as the candidate from Krishnanagar North in a public meeting in Shantipur. The Trinamool leader had praised him a lot, but according to the election rules, if a person is directly involved in any government work or has business interests with the government, then he cannot contest the elections.
In the case of the Trinamool candidate from Krishnanagar North seat, the commission's observation is that filing nomination while involved in government work or supplies is against the Representation of the People Act. It is worth noting that if any candidate of the ruling party is involved in any kind of business transaction with the government, or does any government work, then his candidature can be canceled under Section 9A.
Keeping in mind that such a situation may arise, Trinamool Congress had already prepared an alternative candidate. The nomination paper of an alternative candidate was submitted by TMC on that seat. His name is Somnath Dutta. It is learned that he will contest from Krishnanagar North Assembly seat.
Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra said, 'Abhinav Bhattacharya's nomination has been canceled due to technical reasons. Somnath Dutta had filed the second nomination. Instead, he will contest for Trinamool Congress from Krishnanagar North seat.
Will Trinamool face any problem by changing the candidate? Mahua said, 'Mamata Banerjee had come to Nakashipada and said that she is a candidate from all the seats. He is also a candidate from Kakdweep, Cooch Behar and Krishnanagar. This is a symbol vote. This is a vote for Jodaful of Trinamool Congress. Mahua said that Trinamool Congress's old candidate Abhinav Bhattacharya will campaign for the new candidate.
