LPG Gas Crisis: Amidst the ongoing shortage of LPG, the government has taken a major decision in favor of migrant workers. The government has approved the provision of small LPG cylinders to workers without the requirement of an ID card.
FTL News Update: Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the world is currently experiencing an economic downturn. Economies everywhere have been shaken. In India, specifically, the shortage of gas cylinders continues to escalate, placing a significant burden on the general public. Amidst this situation, some relief news has emerged from the government for migrant workers. The government has decided to provide LPG cylinders to migrant workers without requiring an ID card.
What is the Decision?
In fact, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas recently issued a major update regarding LPG gas cylinders. The Ministry stated that migrant workers—or individuals who have migrated from elsewhere to reside in a different city—will now be able to obtain 5kg gas cylinders without having to produce an ID card. One of the biggest challenges faced by migrants is the lack of permanent proof of address, which often leads to significant difficulties for them. However, following the government's new decision, people will no longer face this particular hurdle.
Lakhs of Cylinders Sold Since March
The government has issued orders to double the supply of 5kg cylinders. Approximately 100,000 cylinders are currently being sold on a daily basis. Furthermore, a total of 1.1 million (11 lakhs) cylinders have been sold since March 23.
Who is Eligible for FTL?
FTL—referring to the small 5kg cylinder—will be available to migrant workers; specifically, those who have moved from one city to another for work. This category includes daily-wage laborers. Additionally, students residing in a different city for their studies are also eligible to avail themselves of this benefit.
What Documents Are Required?
Following this government decision, individuals are no longer required to provide proof of a permanent address. The cylinder can be obtained by simply presenting four specific documents. These documents are the Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, and Driving License. If you possess any one of these four, there is no need to worry; you will easily be able to obtain an FTL—that is, a small gas cylinder.
