At least **11 people** were killed and others seriously injured when a dumper (cement mixer) truck collided head-on with a passenger car on the Kalyan-Murbad road in Thane district on Monday, April 13, 2026.
The accident occurred near **Raita (Raita) bridge** on the busy highway at around **11 am** in the morning. It is being told that there were 12 passengers in the car and it was going from Kalyan towards Murbad, when it collided with a heavy vehicle coming from the front. Eight victims died on the spot, while others succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the hospital, raising the death toll to 11. Two or more people are still in critical condition and undergoing treatment.
A team from **Titwala Police Station** immediately reached the spot and started rescue and relief operations with the help of local residents. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and investigation is ongoing. Initial investigation suggests that the accident may have occurred due to **speeding** or one of the drivers losing control of the vehicle.
Thane Superintendent of Police **Dr. D.S. Swamy** had earlier confirmed the initial casualty figures, saying that nine people had lost their lives and two others were seriously injured. The work of identification of the dead is going on.
Due to this collision, there was a huge traffic jam on Titwala-Kalyan road, due to which the movement of vehicles was disrupted for several hours. Authorities worked to clear the debris and normalize traffic.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on the Kalyan-Murbad corridor, which sees heavy mixed traffic of passenger vehicles and large trucks. Police have registered a case and are investigating factors such as speed, mechanical condition of the vehicles, and possible fatigue or fault of the driver.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the loss of lives and property. Road safety experts urge strict enforcement of speed limits on such routes and better separation of heavy commercial vehicles from light passenger vehicles. After this accident, appeals have been made again to drive carefully and follow traffic rules.
