Khalsa Panth Foundation Day: Today, the festival of Baisakhi is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion across the country. This day not only symbolizes the joy of harvesting, but is also considered a day of revolutionary change in the history of Sikhism. April 13, 1699 was the day when Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa Panth and spread a new religious and social consciousness, but what happened in the meeting that day that gave goosebumps to the people sitting there?
On 13 April 1699, a huge meeting was organized in Keshgarh of Anandpur Sahib. Thousands of people attended this meeting. At that time, the atrocities of the Mughals were at their peak in the country and the need for a strong, fearless and dedicated community was felt to protect the religion. It was for this purpose that Guru Gobind Singh ji called this special meeting. It is said that a special Maa Durga Yagya was also organized during this period. The atmosphere was completely religious and serious, but no one had any idea that history was about to be created in a few moments.
Suddenly Guru Gobind Singh ji stood up in the middle of the meeting with a naked sword in his hand. There was brightness in his eyes and determination on his face. He said loudly, I want a head, who will sacrifice his life for religion? On hearing this, there was silence in the entire meeting. Silence spread among thousands of people. No one could understand whether this was a test or a true sacrifice was being asked. Then Dayaram, a resident of Lahore, came forward and said that he was ready to give his head. Guru ji took him inside a tent and after some time when he came out, his sword was stained with blood. Seeing this, people's minds were filled with both fear and surprise.

After the first sacrifice, Guru ji made the same call again. This time too there was silence for a few moments, but then another devotee came forward. Similarly, five people expressed their desire to sacrifice their lives. These five were from different regions and castes, which symbolized that everyone is equal in the Khalsa Panth. These five heroes later became famous as Panj Pyare.
After some time, Guru Gobind Singh ji brought those five out alive. All this was a test in which he tested the loyalty and courage of his followers. After this, he prepared the nectar and initiated the Panch Pyaras and gave them the form of Khalsa. It was from here that the Khalsa Panth was established, which gave a new identity to the Sikhs.
This is the reason why Baisakhi is considered the biggest day for Sikhs. On this day, Guru Gobind Singh Ji had transformed a common man into a saint-soldier. On this special day, he ordered the Sikhs to wear Panch Kakar Kesh, Kada, Kirpan, Kangha and Kachaira, which is still considered an essential part of the Sikh identity.
