The problems of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are not showing any sign of decreasing. Now Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, very close to Arvind Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha MP, has come on the radar of Enforcement Directorate (ED). Early on Thursday morning, the ED team raided Ashok Mittal’s residence and his associated premises in Jalandhar. Let us tell you that Mittal was recently appointed the deputy leader of Aam Aadmi Party in Rajya Sabha in place of Raghav Chadha, hence this action has created a stir in the political circles.
According to news agency ANI, this action of ED is to alleged violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Officials say that several premises associated with MP Ashok Kumar Mittal are being searched so that evidence to violation of FEMA rules can be collected. When ED vehicles stopped outside the MP’s house early in the morning, tension spread in the area. However, no recovery or arrest has been officially confirmed by the ED yet.
As soon as the news of this raid was received, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann became furious. He directly targeted BJP and the central government. Posting on the social media platform ‘X’, Chief Minister Mann wrote, “BJP begins preparations for Punjab elections… ED raids at the house and university of Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal… Typical Modi style. We are not those leaves which will break from the branch and fall, tell the storms to stay within their limits.” His statement has made it clear that AAP is considering this action as political revenge.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal is recognized not only as a leader but also as a successful educationist and social worker. He is the founder of Lovely Professional University (LPU), Punjab’s first private university. Mittal entered active politics as a Rajya Sabha MP in April 2022. Due to his ability, he has also been a member of important parliamentary committees like Defense and Finance.
Ashok Mittal’s graph has increased rapidly since coming into politics. He was made a member of the India-US Parliamentary Friendship Group and has represented India in several international delegations. Last year itself, he was part of an all-party delegation that visited Russia, Spain and Greece. Being a big name in the field of education, he is considered to have a lot of influence in Punjab and currently he was given a big responsibility within the party.
