Rajma Chawal Recipe: Rajma rice is one of the most favorite and comfort food of India, especially in North India. As wonderful as its taste is, it is equally easy to make. Everyone likes the combination of hot rajma and plain rice.

Ingredients For Rajma Chawal Recipe

  • 1 cup kidney beans (soaked overnight)
  • 2 onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 tomatoes (puree)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • salt as per taste
  • 2-3 spoons oil or ghee
  • Green coriander (for garnish)
  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preparation Tips For Rajma Chawal Recipe

  • Soak kidney beans in water overnight
  • In the morning, add salt to the pressure cooker and boil for 4-5 whistles.
  • Wash the rice and soak it for 15-20 minutes

How to Make Rajma

  • Heat oil or ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and let them splutter, then add onion and fry until golden.
  • Now add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies, then add tomato puree, mix spices (turmeric, red chilli, coriander) and cook well.
  • Add boiled kidney beans to the spices and mix well, add water as required and cook on low flame for 15-20 minutes.
  • Finally add garam masala and garnish with green coriander.

How to Make Rice

  • boil water in a pot
  • add rice and salt to it
  • Cook on medium flame for 10-12 minutes
  • After cooking the rice, filter it or let the water drain.

Serving Suggestion

Serve hot Rajma with rice. You can add some ghee on top. Also serve onion, lemon and pickle.
