Rubel Hossain, the fast bowler from Bangladesh, has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, concluding a career that lasted over ten years and included 159 matches for the national team. The 36-year-old shared his decision via social media, expressing that while he has a deep passion for the national team, he feels it is time to step back from international play.

In his career, Rubel participated in 27 Tests, 104 ODIs, and 28 T20Is, establishing himself as a reliable bowler in limited-overs formats. His final match for Bangladesh took place in April 2021 during a T20I against New Zealand in Auckland. Despite facing injuries that limited his recent appearances, he plans to continue his cricket journey at the domestic level.

A highlight of Rubel's career occurred during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he delivered a standout performance against England in Adelaide. His impressive spell included the dismissals of Ian Bell and Eoin Morgan in quick succession, followed by Stuart Broad and James Anderson, resulting in figures of 4 for 53.

Rubel gained recognition in 2009 after being discovered in a national pace-hunting initiative led by then-Bangladesh bowling coach Champaka Ramanayake. Known for his unique bowling style and ability to exceed speeds of 140 km/h, he made history as the first Bangladeshi bowler to take four wickets on his ODI debut, achieving 4 for 33 against Sri Lanka.

Although his Test career was challenging, with 36 wickets in 27 matches, he truly shone in ODIs, amassing 129 wickets at an average of 34.31, making him one of Bangladesh's top wicket-takers in this format.
