A former Strictly Come Dancing star has shared one thing that she claims to have refused to do while on the BBC show. Comedian Katy Brand appeared on the 2012 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, partnered with professional dancer and show judge, Anton du Beke.

She performed a stunning Viennese Waltz to It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, but failed to wow the audience as she finished second to last on the leaderboard. However, she did still manage to receive a couple of 9s from the judges. Katy previously described the experience as a "refreshing dip" into a world of sequins and entertainment but has since spoken out further on the experience, sharing what show bosses reportedly expected from her. Taking to her Instagram account, Katy claimed she was asked to say certain lines.

She wrote: "When I did Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, I was asked by the producer filming the VT insert interview package to say, 'I live to make people laugh', and also 'when I heard I was doing a Viennese Waltz, I was confused. Because I thought that was a biscuit.'

"And friends, I flatly refused to say either of those things on camera." She added: "So I want you to be inspired by this to know that you too can control your brand messaging as you see fit."

Katy also captioned the post, which had been shared as an image of text, with an anecdote from a Strictly co-star.

She wrote: "I would also like to share that Dame Sheila Hancock told me the same producer wanted her to say, 'this is the role I have been dreaming of all my life', and Dame Sheila just looked at her and said, 'darling, I've played Lady MacBeth.'

"I hope she doesn't mind me telling you that. I adored her."

Fans seemed shocked to discover that the show had so much direction from producers. One commented: "I use to love Strictly but I think Strictly is losing all respectability. Glad you stuck up for yourself. Well done Katy you're better than that."

Someone else quipped: "You know they would have been so chuffed after coming up with that as well."

While another joked: "Personally I would have done the joke. Which explains why you're a brilliant comedian and writer. And I'm not." And one more added: "I cannot put into words how much I love this."
