Zelensky’s ‘envoy’ came to India, what happened to Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Doval?

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustam Umerov is on a visit to India on 17 April. He held separate, high-stakes meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. In this, the possibilities of 'bringing lasting peace' in the conflict-ridden country were discussed. Umerov is considered close to President Volodymyr Zelensky. In his conversation with Doval, the Ukrainian officer gave detailed information about the current situation on 'Frontline'. In this meeting, the Indian side stressed on finding a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. Also reiterated India's principled position.

S Jaishankar gave this information on social media. He said that we discussed our bilateral cooperation and the two countries had talks on the Ukraine conflict. Umerov said he and the foreign minister discussed the current situation on the border, the progress of negotiations and the prospects for achieving a lasting and sustainable peace that is right for Ukraine.

He said the two sides also discussed the development of bilateral cooperation and the implementation of the agreements outlined in the joint statement issued by both sides after talks between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kiev in August 2024.

Increased hopes to further strengthen both sides

Umerov said on social media X that I am grateful for this open and meaningful conversation. We look forward to further strengthening bilateral cooperation. He said that Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared some information about the meeting of Ukraine's top security officer with NSA Doval. Both sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The NSA once again reiterated India's principled stand and stance on peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. Umerov said he and Doval discussed the development of bilateral relations and assessment of the security situation. He said that the Indian side reiterated its consistent position on the need for a peaceful solution based on dialogue and diplomacy.
