Everyone was speculating about the rise in crude prices in India due to the war in the Middle East, but meanwhile your new smart phone has now become expensive. In India, the prices of mobile handsets have increased by 15 to 30 percent in the March quarter. According to experts in the telecom sector, the prices have increased due to the weakness in the rupee and increased prices at the chipset level including memory chips globally. In such a situation, if you are thinking of buying a new smartphone then the news is not good. It is true that due to rising costs and weak rupee, companies have increased the prices of mobile handsets. But its direct impact will be on the common man's pocket.

Why are smartphones becoming expensive?

According to telecom expert Sandeep Budki, the fall in rupee affects us because we do assembling. All the chips used in the handset are imported from outside. Just as the price of every imported good increases when the rupee falls, similarly the cost of every chip increases. On the other hand, the cost of energy has increased at the global level.

Due to the increase in prices, there has been a decline of 3 percent in the sales of mobile phones for the first time in 6 years. The biggest impact has been on the prices of phones coming within Rs 15,000. Companies have increased prices by 15-30 percent. More than 200 mobile models are sold in India. Out of these, prices of more than 80 models have increased. Now new models are also being launched at 25-30 percent costlier prices. If you look at the prices of some popular mobile models, you will be able to see the difference in the old and increased prices of handsets of different companies.
