Six people were arrested on Friday in connection with the violence and vandalism that broke out during the protest on Thursday at Hisar's Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJU S&T). Whereas a case was registered against JJP leader Digvijay Chautala. Police say that the arrested accused are associated with JJP's student organization INSO.
The detained accused were produced in a court in Hisar and sent to judicial custody. Earlier on Thursday, tension spread in the university when the authorities refused permission to JJP's youth wing to organize an event inside the campus, following which massive protests broke out there.
It is being alleged that during the protest the security cordon was broken, flower pots were also damaged and the angry people also clashed with the police. Regarding the incident, the police said that on Thursday afternoon, about 250-260 people, including many workers of JJP youth wing, gathered at Yadav Dharamshala Community Center near the campus and marched to the Vice Chancellor's office.
During the march led by JJP youth wing chief Digvijay Chautala, the protesters clashed with the policemen deployed there. Meanwhile, the protesters had tried to forcibly enter the VC office located near Gate No. 3. Police say that the uncontrollable mob misbehaved with the government employees and forcibly entered the campus and also damaged the gate of the Vice Chancellor's office.
SHO Amit Kundu of Hisar (City) police station said, "In the FIR we have registered in this case, 6 people have been arrested. Digvijay Chautala's name is also included in the FIR, and he is also included among those against whom the case has been registered." Police said that other people involved in the violence are being identified, CCTV footage is also being scrutinized and other evidence is also being collected.
On the other hand, JJP has condemned the arrest of its youth wing workers. Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana Dushyant Chautala and his brother Digvijay Chautala reached Hisar Police Station and submitted their arrest in solidarity. Dushyant objected to the police forcibly entering the houses of JJP leaders and workers and misbehaving with them.
Questioning the police action, Dushyant said, “Will the police enter houses at midnight “just because one or two flower pots were broken in the university?” He also said that his party was gathering evidence against the police action and would file a case against the “erring officers”.
Dushyant also claimed that no gate of the Vice-Chancellor's office was broken, only a few flower pots were broken, and termed the incident as an exaggerated case. On the other hand, to maintain law and order in the district, District Magistrate Mahendra Pal imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS. Hisar Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhant Jain promised to punish the agitators.
Meanwhile, GJU Vice-Chancellor Narsi Ram Bishnoi also condemned the incident and mentioned a previous incident when a member of JJP's youth wing had created a ruckus on the campus. The Vice Chancellor also claims that the protesters included a large number of outsiders who vandalized the university with the aim of creating unrest.
