Episodes from Scott Mills' time on Top of the Pops have been pulled from BBC iPlayer, fans have noticed. The Radio DJ was sacked last month after it emerged that allegations of sexual abuse between 1997 and 2000 were related to a teenage boy under 16. The Metropolitan Police had launched an investigation into the claims in 2016, though it was dropped due to a lack of evidence. However, the DJ lost his job when BBC bosses learned the age of the alleged victim.
He has been axed from all projects with the BBC, and his appearance on Celebrity Bake Off has also been pulled. But the latest is that the old episodes of him working on Top of the Pops when he presented the show, that were due to air in iPlayer despite not releasing a new weekly show since 2006, was pulled, according to The Sun.
Mills issued a statement shortly after he was axed, saying: "The recent announcement that I am no longer contracted to the BBC has led to the publication of rumour and speculation. An allegation was made against me in 2016 of a historic sexual offence which was the subject of a police investigation in which I fully cooperated and responded to in 2018."
He explained that he hopes that, given the allegation is over 30 years old and the investigation was closed 7 years ago, the "public and media will understand and respect my wish not to make any further public comment on this matter".
He went on to thank people who have reached out to him with kindness, inlcuding former colleagues and his listeners. His final show aired on March 24 as he told listeners "back tomorrow" but Gary Davies took over the show instead.
One of the people who had reached out to Mills was Jeremy Vine, who had said he was in "shock and grief" after finding out the news, but stated he sent a text to his former colleague to say: "I hold you in the highest regard and I wish you all the best."
The talk show host had previously addressed the news on his 12pm radio show on the day it broke, but noted he was "taken aback" by the story and said: "I had not heard anything about it until 17 mintues ago, when it was on the BBC website, and I only had the information that was given to you in the bulletin."
He added: "I have nothing more, that it was allegations about Scott Mills' personal conduct, which have led to him being sacked. I have no more than that. All right, on to today's show."
It is expected that Mills will be replaced, but his replacement is yet to be confirmed by the broadcaster.
