The 48th Regional Contingency Committee (East) meeting was held under the aegis of the Indian Navy to strengthen maritime and energy security on the East Coast. It is being told that this important meeting was presided over by Vice Admiral Sushil Menon, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command. During this, there was discussion on strengthening maritime and energy security.
In the meeting, issues related to the security of oil platforms and other important structures present in the sea were discussed in detail. During this period, companies like ONGC, Reliance Industries, Vedanta Limited, HEPI, HEOC and OIL also participated. In the meeting, the decisions of the previous meeting held in Kakinada in September 2024 were reviewed. Also, in view of the changing security threats, maritime security, protection of offshore structures, disaster management and rapid response arrangements were discussed.
All the agencies stressed on further strengthening their coordination to work together and take swift action in any emergency. Representatives of Indian Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Intelligence Bureau, DG Shipping, Customs, CISF, State Police, Fisheries Department, Ports and many big oil companies participated in the meeting. It is clear from this meeting that the government and security agencies are fully alert regarding the security of marine and energy resources on the east coast.
Officials said sea routes and trade were being affected. Because of this the deployment and activities of the Navy have increased. Ensuring maritime security is a big responsibility at this time. Officials said that the style of war is changing rapidly. Now economic and technical aspects have also become very important. Sea routes and trade routes are being constantly monitored by the Navy.
