Alum is called ‘Alum’ in scientific language. It has been used to purify water for a long time. According to scientists, alum binds together the small dirty particles present in water. When these particles join together and become heavy, they settle down and the water above becomes clearer. This is the reason that putting a small piece of alum in the cooler water does not make the water dirty quickly.

Experts say that the water stored in the cooler becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Female mosquitoes often lay eggs in stagnant clean water. If water remains without changing for a long time, the larvae start growing rapidly in it. Alum helps in changing the quality of water, which can reduce the chances of mosquito larvae breeding to some extent.

Sometimes a strange smell starts coming from the cooler. The reason for this could be micro-organisms and dirt produced in water. Mild antiseptic properties are found in alum, which helps in reducing the number of bacteria, due to which the smell coming from water also reduces. When the water remains clean, the cooler pads remain good for a longer time and the air also feels fresh.

Experts say that alum should be used only in limited quantities. Adding too much alum can affect the quality of water. Therefore, only a small piece in the big tank of the cooler is enough. Also, the water in the cooler should be completely changed every few days. Cleaning the tank and pads is also important, so that fungus and dirt do not accumulate.
