WhatsApp has introduced a new feature in India that allows users to recharge their prepaid mobile numbers directly within the app itself. This feature is being rolled out gradually to Android and iOS users and will eventually become available to all users in the near future. The objective of this update is to evolve WhatsApp beyond being just a chatting app and transform it into an all-in-one digital platform.

**What is the new feature, and how does it work?**
Through this new feature, users can now recharge their own mobile numbers—or those of their family and friends—without ever leaving the app. Within WhatsApp, users will have the option to browse various plans; they can select a plan that suits their specific needs and complete the recharge process by making a payment in just a few simple steps. This feature is powered by PayU, ensuring that transactions are both secure and fast.

**Which companies are supported?**
This facility supports India's leading telecom operators, such as Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea. This means that users on these networks can easily perform recharges directly within WhatsApp, without needing to visit any other app or website.

**WhatsApp's New ₹ Icon**
WhatsApp has also added a new ₹ (Rupee) icon to its home screen. This icon serves as a central hub for payments, recharges, and other digital services. From here, users can initiate UPI payments, send money, and access other utilities such as metro ticket booking. This addition has made using the app even easier and faster.

**How to recharge?**
Using this feature is very simple. Users simply need to tap on the ₹ icon located on the WhatsApp home screen and then select the 'Mobile Prepaid Recharge' option. Next, enter or select the mobile number, confirm the telecom operator, choose a preferred plan, and complete the payment using a suitable payment method (UPI, Debit Card, or Credit Card). The recharge will be successfully processed within just a few seconds.

**WhatsApp is Evolving into a 'Super App'**
This feature further strengthens WhatsApp's existing suite of services, which already includes bill payments, metro ticket bookings, and access to government services. With the addition of the recharge feature, WhatsApp is evolving into a multi-purpose platform where users can perform various essential digital tasks alongside chatting.
