India finished on top of the medal standings at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Cairo, concluding the competition with 16 medals, including five gold, six silver and five bronze.

On the final day, Hemant Burman secured a silver medal in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, while the duo of Zuhair Khan and Addya Katyal claimed bronze in the Trap Mixed Team competition.

The 18-year-old had entered the final in seventh place after scoring 578-24x in qualification. Fellow Indians Vedant Nitin Waghmare and Rohit Kanyan also reached the final but finished seventh and sixth respectively.

Trap team secures bronze as campaign ends on high

In the Trap Mixed Team final, Khan and Katyal posted a score of 19 to secure bronze. The pair had qualified for the medal round with 137 and were in contention for silver early on, but a drop in accuracy during the third series pushed them down to third place.

Hungary’s Bence Doeboerhegyi and Anna Nyitrai clinched gold with a junior world record score of 32, while neutral athletes Ramir Nikolaev and Kseniia Tatarinova finished with silver.

India did not reach the podium in the women’s 50m Rifle Prone event, with all participants finishing outside medal positions.

The Indian contingent will next compete at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Suhl in June.
