Manipal: Udayavani will organise a rural children’s literary festival titled ‘Akshara Ambari’ on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, in association with Hattiyangadi Sri Siddhi Vinayaka Residential School.
The festival aims to develop interest in reading, writing and creativity among rural students. A range of panel discussions, activities and competitions will be conducted to encourage students to engage with language and literature.
Writers, poets and resource persons from across the state will participate in the two-day event and interact with students. They will guide participants on topics ranging from how to develop a story idea to understanding the depth of poetry. The event will also feature readings of self-written poems and stories by young writers.
The organisers stated that increasing mobile phone usage has led to reduced interest in reading and creative activities among students. The festival will highlight the importance and enjoyment of reading. Registered participants will also get an opportunity to take part in activities such as storytelling, drawing and creative discussions.
Parents also invited to participate
A key feature of the festival is that it allows not only children but also parents to take part. With reduced interaction between parents and children in modern lifestyles, the event aims to strengthen family bonding through literary engagement. Parents can also participate in storytelling sessions along with their children.
The festival is expected to help nurture literary interest among rural children and provide a platform to showcase their talent. It also aims to build confidence, improve language skills and contribute to the overall development of children. Accommodation will be arranged at the school.
Eligibility and participation
Students who have passed Class 7 and those entering Pre-University (PUC) can participate. Preference will be given to students interested in reading and writing. Those who wish to learn creative writing or are already writing can register. Schools can nominate two students each. One parent can accompany selected high school students.
Registration details
Interested students from across the state can register by sending their name, place, class, school details and parent information via WhatsApp to 7618774529 before May 2. They may also send their written poems, stories or copies of their work. Selected participants will be informed by May 6.
