Rain likely in coastal Karnataka for the next four days starting today

Mangaluru/Udupi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intensified pre-monsoon rainfall in Coastal Karnataka and issued a yellow alert for four days starting April 27.

Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely between April 27 and April 30. Wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected in some places during this period.

On Sunday, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts experienced hot and humid conditions throughout the day, with a noticeable rise in temperature. The weather turned cloudy by evening. In Mangaluru, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.7°C, which is 0.3°C above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 27.1°C, 1.8°C above normal.

Light rain was reported late Sunday night in Moodbidri and nearby areas.

Heavy rain causes damage in Sagar

Sagar: Strong winds and thunderstorms on Saturday night caused significant damage in the town and surrounding rural areas. Several electricity poles were uprooted, leading to power outages in multiple locations.

A tamarind tree behind the sub-divisional hospital fell on an electric transformer, resulting in power disruption in half of the town until Sunday afternoon.

In rural areas, fallen trees blocked roads, affecting vehicle movement in several places. Strong winds also damaged arecanut plantations, with trees falling onto roads in many locations.

In Soraba taluk, heavy rain and wind on Saturday night caused severe damage to 25 houses in Ulavi and nearby villages. A total of 21 electricity poles were completely damaged.

Temperatures remain high across districts

On Sunday, Bidar, Kalaburagi and Raichur districts recorded a maximum temperature of 41°C each. Koppal recorded 40°C, Vijayapura 39.5°C, and Belagavi 37.2°C. Haveri, Bagalkote and Chitradurga districts recorded 38°C each. Mangaluru recorded 35.2°C, while Bengaluru recorded 36°C.

Meanwhile, Akola in Maharashtra recorded the highest temperature in the country at 46.9°C on Sunday.
