According to mythological beliefs, in ancient times, a city named Bhadravati was situated on the banks of river Saraswati. There lived a person named Dhanpal, who was rich with a kind nature. Dhanpal was always ready to help people. He also did a lot of charity. Dhanapala had five sons, out of which the youngest son Dhrishtabuddhi was different from all the members of the family.
It is said that Dhanpal’s youngest son Dhrishtabuddhi got trapped in wrong company at a very young age, due to which he got addicted to wrong things. Dhrishtabuddhi did not value money. He used to spend money freely. When father Dhanpal came to know about this, he explained it to Dhrishtabuddhi several times, but Dhrishtabuddhi did not agree.
One day, when Dhrishtabuddhi created a lot of ruckus in the house due to what his father Dhanpal said, his father Dhanpal threw him out of the house. When Dhrishtabuddhi was forced to live in the forest, away from home, he regretted his actions.
One day, being troubled, Dhrishtabuddhi reached the ashram of sage Kaundinya. There, falling at the feet of the sage, Dhrishtabuddhi told him the whole story and asked him to suggest some remedies.
The sage felt pity on Dhrishtabuddhi, after which he asked him to observe the fast of Mohini Ekadashi. He told Dhrishtabuddhi that the fast of Mohini Ekadashi is very effective, if it is successful then all the sin destroyed Can happen.
Under the guidance of the sage, Dhrishtabuddhi observed the fast of Mohini Ekadashi with true heart and complete rituals and recited the story. After which his life gradually started changing and he started living happily with his family. It is said that since then across the country Mohini Ekadashi The tradition of observing a fast started, which continues till today.
