Britain is set to experience a scorching 'mini heatwave' as parts of the country are likely to see temperatures soaring to highs of 24C. According to the latest weather maps, the hot weather is likely to hit the UK on Friday, May 1 as the Brits gear up for the Bank Holiday weekend.
WXCharts maps have turned yellow indicating the possibility of warmer conditions spreading across the country. A "mini-heatwave" is described if temperatures are above 20C, especially if at a time of year when you wouldn't expect temperatures to be that high, and a "heatwave" if above 25C. The maps show that even areas around northern parts of the country will experience temperatures in the high double digits. Areas around Aberdeen will witness temperatures soaring to 20C, the maps show. However, areas around London will witness the warmest conditions with the mercury levels rising to 24C.
The Met Office's weather outlook for Thursday to Saturday reads: "Plenty of sunshine Thursday, after a grey start. Perhaps a few more showers developing on Friday, otherwise staying warm and sunny. These becoming more numerous come Saturday."
Nick Finnis from Netweather.tv wrote in his latest weather blog: "Largely dry and sunny on Thursday, though still a strong easterly wind in the south.
"An area of low pressure looks to drift north just to the southwest of Ireland later in the week, this could introduce some showers across the far southwest of England, southwest Wales and Ireland on Thursday, then perhaps a wider chance of scattered showers across western on Friday, but some uncertainty on this.
"Eastern areas of the UK staying largely dry and sunny on Friday and warmer too, with the easterly wind turning southeasterly or southerly by then."
