Mobile Alert System By Government of India: These days, the Indian government is trialling a new mobile-based disaster alert system. By doing this, many people may receive test messages on their mobile phones during this period. In view of this, the government has already said in clear words, ‘There is no need to panic about these messages’, because these messages are being sent only to test the system. The main objective of sending these messages is to deliver accurate and timely information to the people at the time of disaster.

Who is doing this trial?

This important trial is being conducted by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which also includes the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). For security, both the organizations are jointly preparing a strong and reliable mobile alert system across the country. The aim of the government is clear that during any disaster or emergency, timely warning should be given to the people, so that the loss of life and property can be minimized.

How does this alert system work?

This system is based on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), which has been introduced by the International Telecommunication Union. Along with this, this technology is already active in all 36 states and union territories of the country. Through this, alerts can be sent through SMS to mobile users present in a particular area, that is, where there is danger, only people in that area will get the warning and people away from the danger will not have any problem with the message.

Cell broadcast technology will provide instant alert

Now Cell Broadcast (CB) technology has also been added to this system. With the help of which messages can be sent simultaneously to all the mobile phones present in the same area. Also, its biggest advantage is that alerts are delivered to people in almost real-time. Which is suitable for giving instant information to people on a large scale and the benefit of this technology also saves people from trouble.

Great example of Make in India

The special thing about this entire system is that it has been designed by the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) in India itself. Which becomes a strong example of Make in India initiative. Along with this, the government is testing its reliability and performance before implementing it completely, hence currently it is being trialled across the country so that people can become aware of it.

What should people do? Know the important thing

During the trial, people may receive messages on their mobiles in Hindi, English or any regional language. Regarding which the government has clearly said, ‘Ignore these messages and do not panic. These are only part of testing the system, so that it can function properly in case of a real disaster.”

Why is this new system necessary?

This new system is also necessary for a huge country like India because disasters like floods, earthquakes, cyclones and heavy rains can occur here at any time. In such a situation, if people are alerted in time, major losses can be saved. Besides, this new mobile alert system is being considered as a big step towards further strengthening the security of the country.
