Lidl has announced a major change which come into effect from Tuesday. The popular budget supermarket is scrapping its popular Coupon Plus feature and replacing it with a brand new loyalty points system.
It means these customers have only three days to claim a monthly reward before the huge change comes in. From May 5, shoppers will earn one point for every £1 spent in-store. Customers will be able to turn these points into moneyoff coupons through the Lidl Plus app and use them in store. To mark the launch, Lidl is giving all new and existing shoppers 100 free Points, meaning they can immediately claim a reward from the app.
However, the update also means the Coupon Plus scheme is coming to an end, with the programme set to finish on Monday (May 4).
Shoppers now have only three days left to hit their spending target, and any coupons they unlock will remain valid until the expiry date shown.
The scheme has previously offered set rewards for meeting monthly spend milestones, such as a free bakery item after spending £10 and complimentary fresh vegetables after reaching £50.
Lidl GB chief customer officer Louise Weise said: "We have done a big piece of work to listen to customers.
"it was clear from the feedback that they wanted more freedom to decide the rewards that suit them."
However, many shoppers were left disappointed with the change as they expressed their frustration on social media.
One of the users wrote: "I was loving my Lidl Plus. Don't mess with it!"
Another added: "I actually rate it as it is."
