NEET UG 2026 Guidelines for Diabetic Students: The NEET UG 2026 examination is scheduled for May 3, 2026. Some technical issues regarding the NEET UG admit cards have recently come to light. Recently, a parent named R. Prasanna expressed their concerns on the social media platform 'X', stating that their daughter is a Type-1 diabetic and uses an insulin pump. Despite providing this information in the NEET UG application form, it was not mentioned on her admit card.
Their daughter's examination center is located at the KV School in Kalpakkam. The parent asked the NTA how this situation should be handled. The National Testing Agency responded immediately to this sensitive matter. In its reply, the NTA stated that the examination center has been duly informed. The student will be permitted to appear for the examination while wearing her insulin pump. This is a crucial point for all candidates who are managing a medical condition (such as Type 1 diabetes) and whose NEET UG admit cards may not reflect this specific information.
What to Do If Your NEET UG Admit Card Does Not Mention Diabetes?
While filling out the NEET UG application form, many candidates disclose their illness or medical condition (such as Type 1 diabetes). However, due to the limited space available on the admit card, this information is sometimes not printed. If this has happened to you, there is no need to panic. The NTA's recent response clarifies that the Board securely retains your data. If you provided accurate information in your application form, a list of candidates with such special medical conditions is sent to the examination centers in advance.
Regulations Regarding Insulin Pumps and Medical Devices
Type-1 diabetic students often require the use of an 'external insulin pump' attached to their bodies. Given NEET's strict dress code and security screening protocols, questions and doubts regarding such devices frequently arise. According to the NTA's guidelines, if a candidate has disclosed their medical condition at the time of application, they are permitted to carry an insulin pump, a glucometer, or glucose tablets into the examination hall. In the case concerning the Kalpakkam center as well, the NTA has clearly stated:
There are special provisions for diabetic candidates appearing for the NEET UG 2026 examination. They are permitted to carry the following items with them:
Sugar tablets or fruits (such as bananas, apples, or oranges).
Water in a transparent bottle.
Essential medicines (accompanied by a doctor's prescription).
Insulin pumps or pens (provided prior intimation has been given).
However, carrying packaged food items—such as chocolates, candies, or sandwiches—is not permitted.
**Precautions to Observe at the Examination Center**
Even though the NTA has already informed the center authorities, candidates should take certain precautionary measures for their own safety and convenience. Arrive at the NEET UG examination center at least half an hour before the scheduled reporting time. Ensure you carry a medical certificate issued by a doctor, along with the corresponding prescription. Politely inform the security personnel stationed at the entrance and the Center Superintendent about your medical condition. If this information is not explicitly mentioned on your admit card, carrying a copy of your application form may prove helpful.
Thanks to its active presence on social media platforms, the NTA is promptly addressing the concerns raised by everyone. This proactive approach is proving to be of significant assistance to the candidates.
