UK drivers are being made aware of new rules that are set to come into effect later this month. From May 12, there are changes regarding who can book a driving test and who can manage it.
From this date, those taking their car driving test will have to book it themselves via the Government's website. The learner's instructor will not be able to book the test. Currently, either the learner or their driving instructor can book it.
Following the change, learners will have to confirm:
They are the person who will be taking the test
Agree to a new set of terms and conditions
The second change set to come into force on May 12 is regarding making changes to your car driving test.
From this date, only the learner will be allowed to make amendments to their booking.
This is one of three changes coming in regarding the managing of tests.
The first - you can only make two changes to a booking - came into effect on March 31.
The final change, which will come into force on June 9, will see only learners able to move their test to nearby centres.
The following are the only amendments that count as a change:
Changing the date or time
Changing the test centre
Swapping an appointment with another learner driver who already has a test booked
From May 12, it will be against the law to book or change a driving test for someone else, guidance on Gov.UK warns.
Below is the latest advice on how to book a driving test.
Prior to booking, learners are told to speak to their driving instructor to confirm they're ready to take the test and ask them for their driving instructor reference number.
Learners can enter this number when booking to ensure their instructor is available, the advice on Gov.UK says.
When booking their test, learners are encouraged to only book at a test centre they intend to use.
"You will only be able to move your test to nearby centres," according to the guidance.
Learners are also advised to choose a date they "realistically" expect to be ready by and use their driving instructor's reference number.
