In an exciting encounter at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, East Bengal FC and Punjab FC played to a 0-0 draw during their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 match on Monday. Although the match ended without goals, it was filled with action, featuring a total of 29 attempts and seven saves. This result keeps East Bengal at the top of the league table with 22 points from 11 matches, while Punjab FC moves up to sixth place with 19 points from the same number of games. Prabhsukhan Singh of East Bengal was named Player of the Match.

First Half: A Balanced Affair

Punjab FC started strong, nearly scoring in the sixth minute when captain Dani Ramirez's long-range shot hit the near post. The visitors displayed composure in possession, with Ramirez orchestrating play in midfield and Manglenthang Kipgen providing support with smart movements.

East Bengal gradually found their footing, effectively utilizing the width through midfielders Bipin Singh and PV Vishnu. However, Punjab's defense, led by Bijoy V and Khaiminthang Lhungdim, remained organized and disciplined, preventing clear chances. The closest opportunity for East Bengal came in the 30th minute when Miguel Figueira's precise pass found Bipin Singh, but Punjab's keeper Arshdeep Singh made a crucial block to keep the score level.

Punjab's attempts were mostly from distance, with Kipgen testing Prabhsukhan Gill, while Ramirez continued to search for openings, but the East Bengal goalkeeper remained composed. The first half ended with both teams evenly matched in possession and chances.

Goalkeepers Shine After Restart

The second half began with increased intensity, as Punjab FC enjoyed a strong start. Within minutes, Kipgen and Ramirez forced multiple saves from Gill, who was kept busy. A standout moment occurred in the 53rd minute when Shami Singamayum's diving header, following a well-placed cross from Lhungdim, was expertly tipped away by Gill.

Punjab continued to apply pressure, with Ramirez controlling the game and sending dangerous crosses into the box. However, East Bengal's defense, anchored by Kevin Sibille and Anwar Ali, held firm against the relentless attacks.

Frantic Finish Sees Chances Go Begging

East Bengal responded with periods of controlled possession, trying to slow the game down and build their attacks. Their best chance came in the 75th minute when Figueira's curling shot from the edge of the box hit the far post and bounced away.

As the match neared its conclusion, both teams cautiously sought a winning goal. Substitute Anton Søjberg almost took advantage of a quick counterattack, but Arshdeep was quick to react. Shortly after, Punjab's center back Pablo Renan dos Santos made a crucial interception to clear a dangerous cross.

The drama peaked in the 90th minute when East Bengal's stand-in captain Mohamad Basim Rashid attempted a daring shot from near the halfway line, catching Arshdeep off his line. The shot beat the goalkeeper but struck the crossbar, denying East Bengal a spectacular late goal.

In the final moments, another scramble in the Punjab box saw Figueira head narrowly wide. Despite the thrilling finish, neither team could secure the win, resulting in a shared point.
