Devotees of Good Omens were bracing themselves for an emotional send-off as the feature-length final instalment landed on Prime Video, signalling the end of a beloved era.
Following a prolonged period of uncertainty surrounding the show's future, it was confirmed that the TV adaptation of the book would conclude with a 90-minute episode.
Fans were worried they would be short-changed on a fitting conclusion, given the story would need to be tied up swiftly, yet having watched the finale, their concerns were entirely put to rest.
The closing episode saw Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) reconcile and join forces in a bid to locate the missing Book of Life and save the day.
However, their efforts fell short of complete success, leaving them as two of the sole remaining beings in the universe - until they were faced with a momentous decision.
God (Tanya Moodie), appearing in physical form for the very first time, offered Crowley and Aziraphale the opportunity to request an entirely new universe, free from angels and demons alike.
Though it would mean neither would continue to exist in their present forms, both knew it was the right choice to allow a new Earth to emerge, granting humanity far greater freedom.
Following the granting of their wish, and after a time-jump, Aziraphale was shown in human form as the proprietor of the beloved bookshop, where he encountered the human incarnation of Crowley, now a published author.
The duo shared an immediate bond and, following Aziraphale's courageous invitation for Crowley to go on a date, the pair ultimately tied the knot and spent their lives growing old together.
Viewers were moved to tears by the touching conclusion, rushing to X, formerly Twitter, to express their reactions.
One fan said: "SCREAMING. CRYING. THROWING UP. OH MY GOD." While another added: "I'm not okay after that ending," sharing a photo of themselves crying.
A third shared: "Aziraphale and Crowley would fall in love in every universe and I think that's beautiful."
A fourth added: "And I'll say it, that was the happiest ending we could've ever possibly gotten omfg how perfect. I'm going to lose my mind I'm so unwell."
A final fan concluded: "I'm actually sobbing my f****** eyes out. I literally can't watch this show ever again or I'll be bawling my eyes out again. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US."
