Virat Kohli emphasized that facing pressure enhances performance, stating, "pressure is a privilege," after he scored an impressive unbeaten 105, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a six-wicket victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their IPL 2026 match on Wednesday.

Having struggled in his previous four IPL matches without a fifty and coming off two consecutive ducks, Kohli's 105* came off 60 deliveries, featuring 11 boundaries and three sixes, aiding RCB in chasing down a target of 193 in Raipur.

Celebration and Mindset

Upon reaching his century in the penultimate over, Kohli celebrated modestly, simply raising his bat to acknowledge the crowd and his teammates. After being awarded Player of the Match, he explained that he kept his celebration low-key due to the significance of securing points, reiterating that "pressure is a privilege" and that it motivates him to elevate his game. He shared that he focused on maintaining composure, playing conservatively, identifying gaps, and staying present, especially after feeling anxious early in the innings.

Kohli expressed his appreciation for consistency, his enjoyment of batting deeply, and the honor of competing at this level, stating it contributes to his character development and continuous improvement.

Match Highlights

In pursuit of 193, RCB bounced back strongly after losing an early wicket, with Kohli stabilizing the innings and Devdutt Padikkal adding 39 runs. Kohli achieved his ninth IPL century in the 19th over, helping RCB reach the target with five balls remaining. Kartik Tyagi was the standout bowler for KKR, finishing with figures of 3/32.

Earlier, KKR set a total of 192/4, bolstered by a half-century from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and contributions from Cameron Green. RCB bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and Rasikh Salam Dar each took a wicket.

RCB's Position and Future Matches

This victory propelled RCB to the top of the IPL 2026 points table, accumulating 16 points from 12 matches. They have two league matches remaining, with their next game against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala.

Captain's Praise for Kohli

Following the match, RCB captain Rajat Patidar expressed his satisfaction with the win and commended the team's collective effort at various stages, emphasizing their focus on taking one match at a time. He was particularly pleased with the bowling performance, noting how RCB managed to restrict KKR after a strong start. Praising Kohli's performance, he remarked that words fail to capture his greatness, while also mentioning that the team aims to maintain their momentum in the upcoming matches, including the one in Dharamsala. Patidar also indicated that Phil Salt, who has been sidelined for the last six games due to injury, is expected to return soon.
