It turned out to be a weekend filled with triumphs. As the season nears its conclusion, the final stages often lose their spark. Football can be romanticised, but these days, results mostly unfold as predicted. The champagne usually stays chilled, and miracles are rare.

This second-last weekend of European football didn’t completely break the mould, but it did deliver the drama fans long for. The spotlight was on Celtic, where USMNT defender Auston Trusty anchors the backline. The Scottish giants were chasing Hearts in their bid to seal the Scottish Premiership title. With victory at home required, they rose to the occasion in spectacular style. Trusty, after a consistent and impressive campaign, finally got his hands on a well-earned trophy.

There was more good news for American players across Europe. Christian Pulisic produced his best spell of football in months, showing flashes of his old form. Antonee Robinson found the net, adding a welcome attacking contribution. Gio Reyna also delivered a more energetic and engaging performance for Gladbach.

However, not everything went smoothly. Malik Tillman’s season continued to fade at an unfortunate time, while Chris Richards suffered a minor injury setback. Over in Ligue 1, the action turned chaotic. Folarin Balogun struggled to make an impact as Monaco took a 4-1 lead by the 55th minute, only to astonishingly lose 5-4, with Balogun failing to get on the scoresheet.

As always, the weekend offered no shortage of drama. With the season winding down, GOAL reviewed how the Americans Abroad fared across Europe.
