Bengaluru: RMC Yard police have arrested two men for allegedly assaulting and killing a man who questioned them for making obscene remarks about his wife.
The arrested accused have been identified as Anand and Dakshinamurthy. They allegedly assaulted 37-year-old Sharanappa at a bar near Govardhan Talkies in Yeshwanthpur on May 10. Sharanappa later died during treatment.
Police said Sharanappa, a native of Koppal, was working as a vehicle driver for a cement shop in Bengaluru. Anand was employed at RMC Yard, while Dakshinamurthy worked as a mason. The three men were known to each other.
According to police, the three were consuming alcohol at a bar near Govardhan Talkies when Anand allegedly made insulting comments about Sharanappa’s wife and accused her of having an illicit relationship. Angered by the remarks, Sharanappa argued with Anand.
Police said Anand then assaulted Sharanappa and Dakshinamurthy also joined in the attack. During the fight, Sharanappa allegedly tried to attack Anand again after falling down. At that time, Anand reportedly punched him, causing him to fall backward and suffer a head injury after hitting the floor.
Despite the injury, Sharanappa did not seek treatment immediately and went home. His wife later took him to Koppal to help him recover from alcohol addiction. A few days later, he developed severe headaches and was admitted to a hospital, where doctors found blood clotting in his head. He later died during treatment.
A case was initially registered at a police station in Koppal and later transferred to Bengaluru based on the location of the incident. Inspector Chandrappa, PSI Krupal and their team carried out the investigation.
