Scones are a British classic, often topped with jam and cream. Savoury scones are also popular, often packed full of cheese and served warm with butter. Tesco Real Food has shared a three-ingredient recipe for delicious, light and fluffy scones.

The recipe notes said: "Rustle up a British classic in no time with this super-simple three-ingredient cheese scone recipe. These little savoury scones are perfect for a teatime treat, packed up in lunchboxes for a picnic." This recipe yields 10 scones, but you can easily half or double it if you need more or less.

Ingredients:

300g self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting

200g mature Cheddar, grated

250g low-fat natural yoghurt

Method:

Mix the self-raising flour with 150g of the grated cheese in a large bowl. Then, stir in the low-fat natural yoghurt until it comes together.

Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead gently a few times until smooth.

Pat into a round, then roll out with a lightly floured rolling pin to a thickness of 2cm. Stamp out 10 scones using a 6cm round cutter, re-rolling the trimmings as needed.

Transfer to a lined baking tray and then sprinkle the scones with another 50g of grated mature Cheddar.

Then, bake at 200°C/180 °C Fan for 18 minutes, or until the scones are light golden and springy to the touch.

Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly, serve still warm as they are, or split and spread with butter or fill as you like.

Tesco also recommended chopping some spring onions or chives to stir through the dough to make cheese-and-onion-flavoured scones.

Or, if you fancy, a pinch of crushed chillies can be added for a spicy kick.
