Actually, both taste sweet, but affect the body in different ways. Experts believe that if consumed in the right quantity and at the right time, jaggery can prove to be better than sugar in many cases. Let us know what is the difference between the two and whose consumption is considered more beneficial.

Sugar is prepared through a refined process, in which most of its nutrients are lost. Only calories are saved in this. Jaggery, on the other hand, is less processed and contains iron, calcium, potassium and some antioxidants.

This is the reason why jaggery is considered a traditional and more nutritious sweetness. However, this does not mean that jaggery should be consumed without limit.

Benefits of eating jaggery

Jaggery helps in giving instant energy to the body. Eating jaggery with ginger is considered beneficial in case of cold and cough. Apart from this, it can also help in improving digestion and removing toxins from the body.

Many people eat some jaggery after meals, because it improves digestion. Jaggery is also considered helpful in removing iron deficiency in women.

Disadvantages of eating too much sugar

Consuming excessive amounts of white sugar can increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, high blood sugar and heart- problems. Sugar increases glucose rapidly in the body, due to which energy comes quickly but also disappears equally quickly.

Apart from this, eating too much sugar can also increase the risk of dental problems and skin aging.

What is the correct way of consumption?

If you want to use jaggery instead of sugar, then limit its quantity. 10 to 15 grams of jaggery daily is considered sufficient.

Eating some jaggery with lukewarm water in the morning can be beneficial. Instead of adding more sugar in tea, less quantity of jaggery can be used.

However, diabetic patients should eat jaggery only in limited quantity, because it also contains natural sugar.

Who should take precautions

People who have high blood sugar levels should not consume too much jaggery or sugar without doctor’s advice. Apart from this, eating too much jaggery can lead to weight gain and excess calories.
