Under Michael Carrick’s leadership, Manchester United have undergone a stunning transformation on the field, and the club is now reaping the financial rewards of that resurgence.

The Red Devils’ third-place finish in the Premier League is expected to bring in prize money of £191.5 million — a figure that provides INEOS with a strong foundation for the summer rebuild already in progress at Old Trafford.

Several elements have contributed to this financial upswing. The 2025–26 season marked the first year of the Premier League’s new domestic television agreement worth £1.675 billion annually. United’s improved league standing and commercial appeal ensured significantly more live TV appearances compared to the previous season, when they finished in 15th place.

The financial breakdown highlights the scale of the improvement. Third place secures a domestic merit award of around £30.9 million, an equal domestic broadcast share of approximately £31.9 million, an international equal share worth about £56.5 million, an international merit payment of roughly £36.8 million, and additional central commercial revenue.

Including a central commercial payment of £11.5 million and facility fees — estimated at £23.9 million — earned through United’s global fanbase and frequent live broadcasts, the total grows significantly.

The difference from last season is striking. Under Ruben Amorim, United’s 15th-place finish produced only £136.2 million. The additional £55 million earned this time from finishing third gives the club a major and immediate financial boost.

With the added income from their return to the Champions League, Manchester United approach the summer with a financial strength they haven’t enjoyed in years.

For a long time, INEOS pointed to financial limitations as the key hurdle to undertaking the ambitious squad overhaul that was needed. The revenue generated through Carrick’s third-place success has now effectively removed that obstacle.
