A clip from Moon My Heart featuring Indian actress Ananya Panday had recently gone viral online and sparked a strong debate on social media. The scene showed a blend of Bharatanatyam with modern dance styles, which quickly divided viewers.
The performance also featured Lakshya, who appeared in the sequence watching Ananya’s character perform on screen. The clip had gained attention for its fusion style and bold presentation.
Classical dancers and netizens had reacted strongly to the video. Many raised concerns about how Bharatanatyam was represented in the scene.
Dancer Anita R Ratnam had commented critically on the clip. She had said, “Watching this clip felt like Bharatanatyam being held hostage by a catastrophic misunderstanding of the form.”
She had further added, “Bharatanatyam is built on technique, control, tradition, geometry, musicality and emotional depth.”
Another dancer, Krithika Sivaswamy, had also expressed disappointment. She had said the portrayal showed a lack of respect for classical art forms and raised concerns about how such performances were presented in mainstream cinema.
However, a different perspective had also emerged from behind the scenes. Assistant choreographer Ananya R Kurup had shared positive comments about the experience of working on the film.
She had written in her post that teaching the performance had been a pleasant experience and praised Ananya Panday’s effort during the shoot.
The film had also marked the first on-screen collaboration between Ananya Panday and Lakshya.
