Liverpool are reportedly holding advanced negotiations as they look to secure one of Europe’s brightest young midfielders ahead of Manchester City. The Merseyside club has stepped up its pursuit of Hertha Berlin prodigy Kennet Eichhorn, aiming to finalise a deal before their Premier League rivals can make a move.

Liverpool step up pursuit of Eichhorn

Under the guidance of Arne Slot, Liverpool have taken decisive action to move to the front of the queue for the highly rated 16-year-old. As per Sky Sports journalist Plettenberg, the Reds are now in “very concrete” discussions with Eichhorn’s representatives, with negotiations already taking place at a senior level between the club and the player’s camp.

Eichhorn has emerged as one of the most coveted young players in global football following a record-setting campaign in Germany. With Liverpool keen to strengthen their midfield for the long term, the teenager is seen internally as a potential generational star capable of leading the club into a new era of success in both domestic and European competitions.

Details of release clause emerge

The battle for Eichhorn’s signature is further fuelled by his relatively modest release clause. The young midfielder is expected to leave Hertha Berlin this summer, and any club wishing to sign him will have to trigger a buyout clause worth approximately €10-12 million.

This amount is widely viewed as a bargain for a player who has already made 18 senior appearances for Hertha and holds the record as the youngest goalscorer in 2. Bundesliga history. Although Hertha would prefer to retain their academy graduate, the terms of his contract make a transfer this summer highly likely, especially with Europe’s elite clubs showing strong interest.

Rival interest from Man City and Bayern Munich

Liverpool face fierce competition for Eichhorn’s services. Manchester City and Bayern Munich have both expressed concrete interest in signing the German youth international. City are reportedly exploring a plan to acquire the midfielder and immediately loan him to Bayer Leverkusen to aid his continued development.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have been actively pursuing Eichhorn behind the scenes, having already held several meetings with his representatives. The Bavarian giants are believed to be preparing a long-term contract running until 2031, with manager Vincent Kompany identifying Eichhorn as a top priority to ensure Bayern maintain their grip on the best young German talent.

Crucial summer ahead for the young star

The coming weeks are expected to be decisive in determining Eichhorn’s future, as he evaluates offers from some of the biggest clubs in world football. Staying in Germany with Bayern would allow him to remain close to home, while City’s multi-club model presents a structured development pathway. However, Liverpool’s proven record of integrating young players into the first team could prove to be a decisive factor in convincing him.

With “concrete talks” already underway, Liverpool remain optimistic about persuading the 16-year-old that Anfield is the ideal destination for his growth and long-term career success.
