Manchester United appear to be on the verge of completing the signing of midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, with the deal expected to be wrapped up within the next 48 hours.

The Red Devils are moving quickly in the transfer market, just days after concluding their 2025/26 season. United ended their Premier League campaign with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Brighton at the Amex Stadium. Despite the convincing result, it did not alter their league standing or European qualification status.

With their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League already confirmed earlier in May, INEOS have wasted no time in setting their transfer priorities, with midfield reinforcements being top of the agenda.

Currently, the club’s attention is firmly on securing the services of Atalanta’s dynamic midfielder Ederson. Over the weekend, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Ederson has halted discussions with other potential suitors to focus on completing negotiations with Manchester United. Talks between United and Atalanta are said to be in advanced stages as both clubs work towards agreeing on a transfer fee for the Brazilian star.

According to journalist Connolly, United officials believe Ederson represents “a versatile player with a powerful physical profile that suits English football perfectly.” Standing at 6 feet tall, the 26-year-old is renowned for his relentless work rate, strong tackling, and ability to transition play from defence to attack. He frequently drops deep to collect the ball before distributing it to more creative teammates in advanced positions.

While Ederson may not be known for threading intricate passes into the penalty area, he remains composed, efficient, and intelligent in possession, demonstrating reliability and tactical discipline on the ball.

The Brazilian midfielder, who is entering the final 12 months of his contract with Atalanta, is reportedly valued at around £35 million. That price tag makes him an attractive option in the current market, especially given his experience and adaptability.

Earlier today, The Peoples Person reported that United’s hierarchy has allocated substantial funds to sign a long-term successor for Casemiro, indicating a major midfield overhaul this summer. The club’s intention is to secure a marquee name alongside Ederson to strengthen the core of their midfield.

Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni are also said to be on United’s radar, with both players highly admired at Old Trafford for their technical quality and potential to thrive in the Premier League.

If all goes as planned, Ederson could become Manchester United’s first major signing of the summer, signalling the start of a new recruitment drive under the INEOS-led regime.
