Tottenham Hotspur are going all out to persuade Roberto De Zerbi to take charge of the team as their new manager.

The north London club are in search of a new head coach for the second time this season after parting ways with Igor Tudor, and have now set their sights on Roberto De Zerbi.

The campaign began under Thomas Frank, but after a poor run of results early in the season, he was dismissed and replaced by Tudor in February.

The Croatian coach oversaw just seven matches in all competitions, collecting only a single point in the Premier League during that period.

Currently sitting only one point above the relegation zone and without a league win since December, Tottenham are under pressure to make the right managerial appointment to steer clear of relegation trouble.

Initially, De Zerbi was reportedly reluctant to take the job before the end of the season due to the club’s precarious position, but the Spurs hierarchy appear to be convincing him with an offer that’s too tempting to turn down.

According to TEAMtalk, De Zerbi has agreed to become the new Tottenham boss this season, lured by a “massive survival bonus” that he would receive if he manages to keep the club in the Premier League.

This incentive is said to be just one part of a proposed five-year deal, with other lucrative elements making the package highly appealing to the Italian coach.

In addition, talkSPORT reports that the salary on offer would make De Zerbi the third-highest-paid manager in the Premier League, behind only Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola.

This represents a major financial commitment and a calculated gamble by the club, but one that Spurs believe will cost less than the potential financial hit of relegation in the long term.

One of the final contractual details being finalised, as per the radio outlet, concerns a wage reduction clause that would take effect if Tottenham were relegated to the Championship and De Zerbi chose to remain with the team.

FourFourTwo has noted that appointing De Zerbi at this stage would be a major coup for Tottenham, though the financial scale of the deal might raise eyebrows among some observers.

De Zerbi has previously been considered a potential successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City — an indication of the high regard in which he is held within elite football circles. For Tottenham to bring him in to lead a relegation fight is therefore a testament to the club’s negotiation efforts, even if the move carries significant financial risk. While success is not guaranteed, the decision seems a more promising bet than when Tudor was appointed last month.
