AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has reignited talk of a possible move to Manchester United after making a remark that set off speculation among fans.
Although Manchester United’s main priority during the upcoming transfer window is expected to be strengthening their midfield, other areas of the pitch — particularly the left wing — could also come under review.
With Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho both tipped for permanent exits, United would be left short of natural options on the left flank. Matheus Cunha has impressed when deployed on that side of the attack, sharing duties with Patrick Dorgu.
However, there is a strong case for United to bring in a specialist for that position, and that is where Leao’s name resurfaces. The Portugal international has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford several times in the past, though no deal ever materialised. This summer, however, the conditions appear more favourable — and if United’s interest is genuine, they could finally succeed in landing their long-term target.
According to a report covered by The Peoples Person, AC Milan are prepared to part ways with Leao after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign in which he registered nine goals and three assists in 29 Serie A appearances.
His relationship with the club and its supporters has reportedly deteriorated, and both parties now view separation as the best option.
Reports suggest that an offer in the region of €50 million might be sufficient to persuade Milan to sell the player, who has often been described as virtually unstoppable when in form.
As speculation intensifies ahead of the transfer window opening, the 26-year-old attacker has added further fuel to the fire with his remarks about Manchester United.
Speaking to the BBC, Leao was asked which English club he follows.
He replied, “Of course, I watch the Premier League a lot.”
“I like Manchester United, especially because of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is my idol, but I also follow Arsenal on TV…”
Unsurprisingly, his comments have stirred considerable reaction among fans online. It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming weeks.
