Florentino Perez has stated that he has not yet spoken to Jose Mourinho regarding a possible return to Real Madrid, while confirming that two managers are currently being considered to take over from Alvaro Arbeloa.

The Real Madrid president admitted he is reviewing two potential replacements for Arbeloa as part of the club’s next phase. At the same time, he addressed growing speculation linking Mourinho with a comeback to the Santiago Bernabeu and took aim at his election opponent, Enrique Riquelme.

Perez discusses Real Madrid’s managerial hunt

In an interview with Television Espanola, Perez revealed that the club is nearing a decision on Arbeloa’s successor. He mentioned that two preferred candidates are already under consideration as Real Madrid prepares for a new era. When questioned about Mourinho’s possible return to the dugout, Perez responded candidly.

Perez comments on Mourinho rumours

Although he expressed admiration for the Portuguese tactician, Perez clarified that no official discussion has taken place. He confirmed that he is assessing all available options. Perez explained, “I’m thinking about it. Do I have a name in mind? Two. Mourinho? He’s a good coach, clearly. I’m not going to announce it because I haven’t spoken to him yet.”

Perez takes strong position on club issues and election challenges

The Real Madrid president also launched a sharp critique at his electoral rival, Riquelme. Perez portrayed himself as a stabilising force for the club, insisting that his rivals risk taking Madrid back to the turbulent Ramon Calderon era.

“I love Real Madrid deeply, and when I see them being targeted, I step in,” he said. “I noticed a hidden movement trying to destabilise the club through me. Since I still trust the members, I called for elections.

“And when I see the other candidacy, it turns out they are the same people from Calderon’s time, which was the darkest chapter in Real Madrid’s history. On top of that, they claim this man (referring to Riquelme) has taken a loan with 54 percent annual interest. How could anyone agree to that? I’m not inventing this. It seems like he’s here because he needs the club for his personal business interests.”

Madrid closing in on key decision

Los Blancos are expected to step up their efforts to find Arbeloa’s replacement as speculation surrounding Mourinho and other candidates grows. However, attention will first shift to the upcoming presidential elections on June 7, which could ultimately determine who takes charge of the team next.
