The Algeria national football team has officially announced a 26+1 player squad in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Head coach Vladimir Petkovic has named a total of 27 players, with one additional player — goalkeeper Abdelatif Ramdane — listed as an emergency backup who will not be registered unless one of the three main goalkeepers suffers an injury.
The squad includes four goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards. Before heading to the tournament, the team will undergo a training camp at the National Technical Centre in Sidi Moussa, Algeria.
Following the camp, the team nicknamed “Les Fennecs” will play two friendly matches as part of their World Cup preparations. Algeria will face the Netherlands on Thursday, 4 June 2026 (WIB), and Bolivia on Thursday, 11 June 2026 (WIB).
Among the notable names called up by Petkovic is Luca Zidane, the son of Zinedine Zidane. Despite currently recovering from a broken jaw and chin sustained in April while playing for Granada against Almeria, Luca has been included in the squad and will compete for a starting spot between the posts. The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been a key part of Algeria’s setup since switching his nationality in September 2025.
Because of Luca’s injury, Petkovic decided to include four goalkeepers in total for the World Cup preparations. Another key figure in the squad is Riyad Mahrez, who has been a central player for Algeria since 2014. Now aged 35, Mahrez is expected to play another crucial role for the team thanks to his experience and technical quality. The veteran forward has also hinted that the 2026 World Cup could be his final appearance at the tournament.
