Many Manchester United players now have their attention fixed on the forthcoming World Cup, but supporters can be forgiven for pausing to appreciate what has been a remarkable few months for the club.
After finishing a disappointing 15th the previous season, United were determined to stage a strong comeback this year. Under Ruben Amorim, the team found itself in sixth place, but the Portuguese manager was dismissed at the beginning of January.
Michael Carrick stepped in as head coach, and under his leadership, the Red Devils went on an impressive run that ultimately earned them a spot in next season’s Champions League.
The club’s official website recently revealed several notable statistics that highlight just how strong United’s finish to the campaign has been. Their final tally of 71 points was the highest since 2023, representing an improvement of 29 points from last season’s total of 42.
In fact, United proved to be the best-performing team in the league in 2026, especially from the moment Carrick took charge. The team “collected 41 points in 19 matches after 1 January – one more than champions Arsenal.”
Fans will hope this upward momentum bodes well for the next campaign. During this period, United were also the most prolific scorers in the league, netting 36 goals – two more than runners-up Manchester City.
Additionally, “no side attempted more shots on goal than United in the 2025/26 season, although Manchester City equalled their 595 attempts. United, however, registered the most on target, with 215 compared to City’s 205.”
Another remarkable aspect of their campaign was their consistency – United were the only team in the league that did not lose consecutive matches all season. It was the first time they had achieved this since the 2017/2018 season under Jose Mourinho.
It has been a season that has re-energised both the players and the fans, setting a promising tone for what lies ahead.
