New Delhi: Google has introduced a major upgrade to the document scanner inside Google Drive for Android users, adding several AI-powered features aimed at making document scanning faster and more efficient.

The updated scanner includes Smart Batch Scanning, duplicate page detection, automatic image enhancement and a redesigned interface built using Google’s Material 3 Expressive design system.

Redesigned Scanner Interface

The updated scanner comes with a refreshed layout that simplifies document management and scanning controls. Google has removed older interface elements and introduced a cleaner design intended to improve navigation and make scanning tools easier to access during use.

The feature is being rolled out through Google Play Services and is also available in the Files by Google application.

Multi-Page Scanning Gets Easier

One of the biggest additions is Smart Batch Scanning, which allows users to scan multiple pages continuously without manually capturing each page separately.

The scanner can automatically identify page boundaries and separate them into individual scans, reducing the time required for scanning longer documents, receipts or notes.

Duplicate Detection and AI Enhancements

Google has also added duplicate page detection to help users avoid repeated scans while digitizing large document sets. Another feature, called Auto-Best Frame, uses AI to select the clearest image automatically if multiple captures of the same page are detected. This reduces the need for retakes and improves scan quality.

Offline Processing for Privacy

According to Google, all AI processing takes place directly on the device rather than on cloud servers. This allows users to scan documents even without internet access while also improving privacy by keeping sensitive files stored locally during processing.

Availability

The upgraded scanner is currently rolling out to select Android devices with at least 8GB RAM. Google said the update is designed to help users digitize documents more efficiently, whether for office work, study material, receipts or other paperwork.
