Dehradun, 22 May 2026 (Sunday): It is said that when trouble comes, there is darkness all around. But if the heart of governance and administration is beating, then after every dark night a new morning definitely comes. Under the guidance of the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and the leadership of Dehradun District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal, the district administration is doing something similar these days. The administration is not limited to just the files of government offices, rather it is truly changing the lives of helpless and distressed families by wiping their tears. From treatment, education, employment to bank loan waiver, the administration has given a new support to the needy by solving hundreds of cases from a humanitarian perspective.
No one can understand better than Sunita Kalwar, a resident of Doiwala, what a mountain of troubles is like. Sunita is a widow and amidst this grief, she came to know that she is suffering from a fatal disease like cancer. Firstly, she lost her husband, on top of that she was suffering from a fatal illness and her pockets were completely empty. Sunita was faced with the huge challenge of continuing her two innocent children’s education along with her own treatment. When no solution was found, she reached District Magistrate Savin Bansal with her grievance. He tearfully pleaded that his children’s fees should be waived off and some financial help should be given so that they do not miss out on their education due to his illness.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal became very emotional after hearing this very painful story of Sunita. Considering the seriousness and sensitivity of the matter, he immediately issued major instructions without wasting a moment. On the orders of the District Magistrate, the District Administration immediately approved financial assistance of Rs 50,000 from the Rifle Club Fund to Sunita Kalwar and handed it over to her. This amount was no less than a lifesaver for Sunita at that time.
The administration did not step back by just giving money to Sunita, but also took full responsibility for the secure future of her children. Sunita’s son’s admission in school was confirmed so that his studies do not stop. At the same time, the education of his daughter, who had left studies due to financial constraints, was restarted through a very special and ambitious campaign of the district administration, ‘Project Nanda-Sunanda’. This step of the administration has given a new and safe direction to the future of Sunita’s two children which was drowning in darkness.
Let us tell you that Sunita Kalwar had a major cancer operation on 11 July 2024 in a hospital in Jolly Grant. From then till today his treatment is going on continuously. During this long treatment, the Dehradun district administration not only provided financial help to this family, which was financially and socially broken, but also assured them that they were not alone in the society. The administration is continuously working with all possible coordination for his treatment and care of his family.
This is not the first case when the district administration has helped someone in this way. In the last few years, the administration has provided direct financial assistance worth lakhs of rupees to many such helpless families. Many disintegrating families have been taken care of by doing many things like waiving off huge old electricity and water bills, providing relief from bank loans, giving money for treatment and helping with rifle club funds. Apart from this, on the basis of ‘Project Nanda-Sunanda’, today hundreds of poor and destitute girls are being connected to the mainstream of the society by resuming their missed education. This unique and sensitive working style of Dehradun district administration has become a topic of discussion in the entire state today.
