15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is on everyone’s lips after making a splash in IPL 2026. There is a demand to include Vaibhav in Team India. Former Indian team chief selector MSK Prasad and 1983 World Cup winning team member Madan Lal have also joined this discussion. MSK Prasad termed Vaibhav as ‘extremely talented’ and ‘the best player in the world in T20 cricket’ and said that he should be included in the Indian team for the series against Ireland later this month.
Madan Lal, who has been the coach of Team India, says that Vaibhav has the talent and thinking like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar and he wants this young sensation to be included in the national team as soon as possible. However, Madan Lal said that if Vaibhav wants to join the ranks of legends like Sachin, he will have to prove himself in Test cricket also.
Vaibhav has been selected in the India-A team for the Sri Lanka tour. MSK Prasad is confident that he will do well in Sri Lanka. He told news agency PTI, ‘He is not only exceptionally talented. He is among the best players in the world in T20 cricket. He should be included in the Indian team immediately. After the Sri Lanka tour with India A, he should be selected in the Indian team for the series against Ireland.
He further said, ‘I think he can be selected in the senior Indian team. I am confident that he will perform well for India A in Sri Lanka. There would be no point in making them wait. He will soon play for India and will keep playing for a long time. MSK Prasad also said that Vaibhav is still very young and it is very important to handle him well. He said, ‘I think he should remain under the guidance of (VVS) Laxman or (Rahul) Dravid for some time. They are the only people who can keep him humble. This is necessary to give the right direction to his career at this stage.
Madan Lal said that he fears that because of Vaibhav, some talented players may be dropped from the team. He told PTI on Monday (June 1), ‘Vaibhav is as good as Abhishek, Sanju and Ishaan. Although these players have proved themselves, Vaibhav is yet to prove himself at that level.
Madal said, ‘No one can bat like Vaibhav. The kind of game he has shown to the world is incredible. Every coach would want him to play, but the balance of the team also has to be seen. He should not sit outside, otherwise his confidence will reduce. There is no question of protecting him from anything.
