AC Milan are reportedly planning a move to sign Alejandro Garnacho in the summer of 2026.

The Italian club are even said to be ready to cash in on one of their star players to make room for this potential signing.

According to reports, Milan will soon open talks with Chelsea, although the negotiations are expected to be far from simple.

Aside from Chelsea’s high asking price, Milan may need to sell Cristiano Ronaldo’s compatriot, Rafael Leao, to make space for the former Manchester United winger.

It is no secret that AC Milan and Chelsea share a strong business relationship in player transfers.

In recent seasons, the Rossoneri have frequently signed players from the Blues, including Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud, Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Joao Felix, and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Interestingly, these transactions have largely been one-way, as Chelsea have yet to sign any players from Milan in return.

Now, Milan are once again eyeing another move involving the London club.

The player they are reportedly targeting is Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho.

Since arriving in London with high expectations, the Madrid-born winger has struggled to adapt to life under the bright lights of Stamford Bridge, leading the Chelsea management to consider offloading him.

Reports indicate that Chelsea have placed Garnacho on the transfer list after a season that failed to justify his hefty transfer fee.

Garnacho joined Chelsea last summer in a deal worth around €47 million (approximately Rp975 billion), which included a 10 percent sell-on clause for Manchester United.

However, the return on investment has been minimal so far.

The winger has scored only eight goals across all competitions, including just one in the Premier League and one in the Champions League.

It is not only the lack of goals that has frustrated the Chelsea hierarchy but also his overall inconsistency, which has seen him lose his spot in the starting lineup.

Despite his struggles in England, Garnacho’s reputation remains strong in Italy, where his potential is still viewed as elite.

According to SempreMilan, the Rossoneri are interested in bringing the young Argentine, often dubbed Lionel Messi’s protégé, to fill the left-wing position.

This ambition aligns with Rafael Leao’s desire to leave San Siro after the 2026 World Cup.

“I am proud to have made history at AC Milan, but I want a new chapter,” Leao told Sport TV Portugal.

“I feel ready to play in another league. I’ve given my best for Milan, but now it’s time for a new challenge,” added the former LOSC Lille player.

Leao Holds the Key

As mentioned earlier, signing Garnacho will not be easy for AC Milan, as Chelsea aim to recoup the full amount they spent to sign him from Old Trafford.

If the Blues insist on recovering the entire €47 million they paid a year ago, the chances of a move to Italy will be slim.

Financial constraints across Serie A clubs mean that teams like AC Milan are cautious about overspending on players who have just endured a disappointing season, preferring instead to negotiate more favorable terms.

Unless Milan can cash in on Rafael Leao, whose market value is estimated at €80 million (approximately Rp1.6 trillion), Garnacho’s transfer to Serie A appears unlikely to materialize.

Given Milan’s current financial situation—especially after their heavy spending last summer—the transfer for Garnacho seems feasible only if Leao departs from San Siro.
