Roy Keane has strongly expressed his view that dismissing Arne Slot would be a serious error by Liverpool.

The Manchester United legend believes that removing Arne Slot, who guided Liverpool to the Premier League title in his debut season as manager, would be an unwise decision.

Liverpool have endured a difficult 2025–26 campaign across all competitions, suffering an alarming total of 18 defeats since the season began.

Just last year, Anfield celebrated the 2024–25 Premier League triumph with Arne Slot at the helm, after he led the Reds to an impressive 84 points — a stark difference from the current season, which has now ended without any silverware.

Arne Slot was appointed by Liverpool at the start of the 2024–25 season to succeed Jurgen Klopp, whose era brought the club back to the pinnacle of English, European, and world football.

Under Klopp, Liverpool lifted the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League trophy, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the 2019–20 Premier League title, followed by a domestic cup double in the 2021–22 season.

In his final year in charge, Klopp concluded his Liverpool journey by winning the Carabao Cup for the second time, fielding a youthful side against Chelsea in the final.

That took place during the 2023–24 season, when the German manager guided Liverpool to a third-place Premier League finish with 82 points, scoring 86 goals and conceding 41 over the course of the campaign.

In Arne Slot’s championship-winning season, the Dutchman secured the Premier League title with 84 points, once again scoring 86 goals and conceding 41 — mirroring Klopp’s previous record in attack and defence.

Roy Keane, whose remarkable Champions League performance against Juventus in 1999 was ranked No.3 in FourFourTwo’s list of the greatest individual displays in football history, believes that Liverpool could be pressured by ‘restless fans’ into making a hasty decision to sack Arne Slot.

“You can’t be sacking the manager a year after winning the league,” the Irishman said on the Stick to Football podcast.

He added: “The fans are restless… but aren’t most fans? It’s about how they end the season. They’ve got Manchester United in a few weeks — emotionally huge games for the supporters. But I think they’ll be fine for Top 5.”

Currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table with 52 points, Liverpool are only six points ahead of the team in 10th place.

With fifth place ensuring qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, Liverpool will look to secure their spot when they face Everton — just five points behind — in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.
