PONTIANAK – The people of Pontianak are getting into the spirit of the 2026 World Cup.
Local interest in football jerseys has surged noticeably across the city.
At Gaul Sport, a sporting goods shop located on Teuku Umar Street, Pontianak, owner Zain noted that Spanish and German national team jerseys are currently the best-selling items among customers.
“Right now, the most sought-after jerseys are Germany and Spain. In previous years, Argentina and France were the top picks,” Zain told reporters on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Zain added that the buyers come from all age groups as the global football event draws near.
“During the World Cup, everyone wants a jersey — from older men to young people,” he explained.
He hopes that the growing enthusiasm for football will continue to boost sales leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
The Spanish national team will compete in Group H of the 2026 World Cup alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde.
La Roja will enter the tournament as the reigning Euro 2024 champions and are widely expected to progress, led by coach Luis de la Fuente, who has successfully guided Spain’s new generation to shine.
Spain’s World Cup history has been a mix of triumph and heartbreak: they lifted the trophy in 2010 but have also suffered several penalty shootout eliminations.
