ChatGPT Reaches 1 Billion Monthly Users: OpenAI's AI app, ChatGPT, has made history. It has become the first AI app to reach one billion monthly active users. Surpassing giants like Google Maps, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, it is also the first app to achieve this feat in the shortest amount of time. ChatGPT was launched in 2023, and within just three years, the number of its monthly active users has exceeded one billion. It took TikTok five years and Instagram eight years to reach this same milestone. This demonstrates the rapid pace at which AI is now carving out a place for itself in people's lives.

Competition Intensifies in the AI ​​Segment

Due to increasing competition within the AI ​​sector, the rivalry is becoming fierce. While ChatGPT remains in the lead in terms of active users, its rival apps are also advancing rapidly. Anthropic's Claude has reached 56 million monthly active users. Claude has demonstrated a year-over-year growth of 640 percent, whereas ChatGPT managed an increase of only 62 percent. This indicates that the road ahead will not be easy for ChatGPT. Data also reveals that among users in the U.S. who have installed the Claude app, the time spent on ChatGPT decreases by 5 percent just one month later.

Both Companies Gear Up for IPOs

OpenAI and Anthropic—locked in a fierce race against each other within the AI ​​sector—are both preparing for a public listing. Anthropic has already initiated the process to launch an IPO in the U.S., while OpenAI is also expected to announce its IPO in the coming days. With ChatGPT having now achieved this significant milestone, OpenAI's market position has been further strengthened.

ChatGPT Plus Subscription Available for Free in This Country

Just last month, news emerged that OpenAI has launched a new initiative in collaboration with the government of Malta. Under this program, every Maltese citizen who completes a free AI literacy course will be granted a complimentary one-year subscription to ChatGPT Plus. This offer is also applicable to Maltese citizens residing abroad. Following Malta, a similar initiative could potentially be launched in the UAE as well. Meanwhile, the company is currently offering free subscriptions to ChatGPT Go for users in India.
