PONTIANAK – The Pontianak City Government has reaffirmed the enforcement of the Mayor’s Regulation (Perwali) limiting nighttime activities for minors in anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup festivities.
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to kick off on 12 June.
One major concern is the match schedule, with kick-offs taking place between midnight (00:00 WIB) and 9:00 a.m. WIB.
Authorities fear that these late-night match times could lead to minors wandering outside under the pretext of watching the World Cup matches.
Pontianak Deputy Mayor Bahasan emphasized that the regulation remains fully in effect and must be observed by all residents.
“The Mayor’s Regulation is already in force, and we will continue to implement it,” he stated during a session at the Pontianak City Council Office on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
According to the regulation, minors are prohibited from being outside their homes without clear purpose after 10:00 p.m. WIB, unless accompanied by their parents or for legitimate reasons that can be justified.

Bahasan further reminded citizens that there is no need to leave their homes just to watch matches, as World Cup broadcasts are easily accessible from home.
“You can watch from home. There are plenty of options. In fact, the President has instructed that TVRI will broadcast the matches for free,” he explained.
He added that this policy serves as a signal for all parties to maintain order and safety throughout Pontianak City.
“This is a clear signal. Now it’s up to the government, the community, and all stakeholders in Pontianak to uphold and implement it together,” he concluded.
Acting Head of TVRI West Kalimantan Station, Sugeng Widiyanto, announced that the public is welcome to join the official viewing event at the station’s courtyard.
However, residents who wish to organize their own public viewing events—either in their neighborhoods or business venues—are still required to register.
“Those who want to join the viewing event at TVRI’s courtyard are welcome. For those who wish to hold independent viewing events elsewhere, registration is recommended,” he said when met at the TVRI Office on Jl. Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Monday, 1 June 2026.
