Japan Illegal Mosque Controversy: A huge controversy has arisen over the illegal construction of a mosque in Saitama province of Japan. This mosque has been built completely illegally without any local and government permission. Japanese authorities have clearly stated that this construction is completely against their strict local laws. Pakistan’s Ambassador Abdul Hameed himself attended the grand inauguration ceremony of this controversial and illegal mosque. After this major incident came to light, now serious questions are being raised on the Pakistani community living in Japan. The Embassy of Pakistan is now fully engaged in defending itself and giving its clarification in this entire matter.

Forest land encroachment and mosque construction

This controversial mosque is built on a huge land of about 4,500 square meters in Kawagoe city of Saitama Prefecture. This entire land has been strictly reserved by the Government of Japan as exclusively mountainous forest land. This area falls under the Controlled Urban Development Zone where any construction work is strictly prohibited.

For construction on this reserved forest land, it is very important to take special and prior approval from the local administration. The administration clearly says that this mosque was constructed illegally without any necessary permission. After this, the Japanese authorities have expressed their strong displeasure and deep concern over this entire illegal construction.

role of pakistani ambassador

This whole matter became more heated when a grand inauguration ceremony of this controversial mosque was organized. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan Abdul Hameed personally participated in this program. With his involvement this local dispute completely transformed into a major diplomatic and international issue.

Shakeel Sheikh Mohammed, a 62-year-old Pakistani national associated with the Yashio Mosque, has also strongly criticized this act. He says that building any mosque like this without permission is not a good thing at all. He believed that only by maintaining good relations with the local people, a proper and good environment can be created for the mosque.

As the controversy escalated, the Embassy of Pakistan issued a statement on social media platform X on May 31. He appealed to all Pakistani citizens living in Japan to completely follow the local rules there. The embassy also said that they are not directly involved in any such illegal construction or project.

The Pakistani Embassy also clarified why Ambassador Hameed had gone to the event held on 3 April 2026. The organizers had falsely assured the ambassador that they had received all the necessary approvals as per Japanese law. On the basis of this wrong information, the Ambassador had accepted the invitation to inaugurate this controversial mosque.
